What is Standard Business Reporting?

Standard Business Reporting (SBR) was introduced by the Australian Government in 2010 to simplify business reporting. Under release 2.0 the reform, which will be made mandatory for all businesses, requires reports to be submitted in a standard electronic format (such as XBRL) using the ebMS 3.0 AS4 message standard.

This reform is, apart from making reporting easier, the Government’s effort to link all of their databases so that all departments have access to the same, up-to-date information about individuals and businesses. Instead of having to submit the same documents to multiple departments, you will only have to submit documents once. That information will automatically update the Government database.

“XBRL is the designated SBR standard for financial transactions. Financial transactions include reporting from business and accounting software to the ATO and other SBR agencies, all SuperStream transactions and reporting as well as reporting from payroll systems for example Single Touch Payroll.”
